We recommend ages 7-8 for most students due to the size and weight of bass guitars. We suggest smaller scale basses for young or smaller students. Our bass instructors evaluate each student during their free trial lesson and can suggest any adjustments needed.

No, you do not need a bass initially, however we suggest getting one within the first 5 weeks. This will enable you to practise at home and bring to your lessons making progress faster. We can guide you to the right instrument– And we recommend checking Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace for affordable options before buying new.

We recommend Fender Precision basses (P-bass) the range starts at Squire models for an affordable option. For children or smaller adults, get a smaller scale bass to ensure proper technique and comfort.

Bass focuses on rhythm and low-frequency foundation, requiring both rhythmic precision (like drums) and melodic understanding (scales and harmony). You have less strings but much more responsibility for the song’s foundation.

Every day you should be doing at least 10 minutes of practise. Most of all, consistency and frequency matter more than duration to build up that
muscle memory in the fingers.
