FAQs
What age is best to start piano lessons?
Around age 5 is a good starting point. It really depends on the aptitude and enthusiasm of the individual student. We evaluate each child during their free
trial lesson.
Do I need a piano or keyboard at home?
Yes, students need access to some type of keyboard or piano to practice between lessons. You can’t learn piano without being able to practise something! A cheap second-hand keyboard is all that is needed initially and can be upgraded as you progress.
Do you teach classical technique or modern music?
Both! We teach proper classical technique, fingerings, and scales and can prepare you for exams if that is your goal. However, if you’re interested in, jazz, rock, or pop, that is also good – we build solid fundamentals while keeping learning fun.
How quickly will I be able to play songs?
Progress depends on your practice consistency and natural aptitude.
How often should I practice piano?
For a complete beginner, we recommend at least 10 minutes per day to help build muscle memory. You will most likely be reading notation from the get- go so it is important to revise this too. As you progress and depending on your own goals, a typical recommendation is 30 minutes, 4-5 days a week with breaks allowed. The goal is finding your “sweet spot”–enough to progress and keep playing enjoyable.
